Using Serological Pipettes with Pipette Controllers

Serological pipettes should be operated with a compatible manual or electronic pipette controller. Mouth pipetting should never be used.
For consistent liquid transfer:

Select a pipette capacity close to the intended transfer volume.
Check that the package is intact before opening a sterile pipette.
Insert the pipette carefully into the controller to create a secure seal.
Keep the pipette as vertical as practical while measuring volume.
Aspirate slowly to reduce bubbles, foaming, and liquid movement into the filter plug.
Read the liquid level at eye level using the appropriate meniscus.
Use controlled dispensing speeds to improve consistency.
Do not continue using a pipette if its filter plug becomes wet.
Dispose of used pipettes according to the laboratory’s biological, chemical, and sharps-related procedures.
